Lesson 1 begun

As I plunged into the first lesson, I was reminded of some stitch drawings I did for a workshop with two granddaughter 11 years ago. Here they are.

Yesterday I was inspired by a photograph of the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona as a basis for a design for stitching. Here’s the photo.

By tracing the photo, I simplified it and colored areas to suggest how I might stitch it. I also scaled it down for a small embroidery, heavily textured with dimensional stitches and maybe beads.

Next I did some rubbings, finding that the soft materials I initially tried–textured napkins and some embroidery, did not yield good rubbings. Anyhow, here’s what I’ve done in my journal so far.
